42nd Battalion Memorial Pool reopens

Rockhampton’s 42nd Battalion Memorial Pool has reopened today, Monday 13 February, after major upgrades to the pool deck, plant and equipment.
The $2.5 million project was jointly funded by Rockhampton Regional Council and the State Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
Parks, Recreation and Sport Committee Chair Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the revamp was necessary after 47 years of endless fun, thousands of visitors and one devastating cyclone.
“This pool is absolutely loved by our community and holds some wonderful memories from being one of our first great recreational sites to housing fun activities in its heyday as the Rock Pool Water Park. But the time had come for a major upgrade, and after Cyclone Marcia’s beating it was desperately needed,” Cr Rutherford said.
“We’re thrilled with the modern amenities including the wet deck, accessibility ramp and the upgrades to the mini-golf area, and so very pleased to give it back to the community to become a thriving recreational hub once again.
“Thanks to the State Government’s initial funding of $666,000, we were able to carry out these substantial repair works and bring the redevelopment forward; it’s estimated a further 20 to 25 years will be added to the life of the pool complex.”
Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said the pool complex would get another boost with the recently announced Works for Queensland funding.
“In the past fortnight we were happy to announce further funding of $1.23 million from our Works for Queensland program specifically for water slides at the 42nd Battalion Memorial pool, meaning further jobs for the area and of course added facilities for our young people,” Ms Lauga said.
Member for Rockhampton Bill Byrne said the State Government’s contribution helped bring the complex back to its former glory.
“The pool is located in a perfect position with close proximity to schools and community infrastructure - this is exactly the kind of support we want to give back to the community to help provide contemporary facilities for people to follow their leisure pursuits,” Mr Byrne said.

- Demolished cyclone-damaged equipment
- Wet deck conversion to 50m pool
- Accessibility ramp to 50m pool
- Supply & installation of new filtration and sanitation plant and equipment
- New Balance tanks and hydraulic pipes
- Upgrades to mini-golf area
- Boundary lighting
- Shelter shed and new BBQs
