North Rockhampton’s 42nd Battalion Memorial Pool will receive its first injection of funding after Council’s application for assistance was approved yesterday.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council is pleased to welcome a $666,864 boost from the State Government’s 2015/16 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
“This funding will help us to carry out substantial repair works and it will also free up our budget, allowing us to bring parts of the redevelopment forward,” Mayor Strelow said.
Committee Chair of Parks and Recreation Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the pool has been operating since 1969 and there are a number foundation issues that need to be addressed to bring it up to standard.
“Over the next two years the money will allow Council to reline the 50 metre pool, remove the scum gutters and upgrade to a modern wet-deck system, and replace the pool plant, filtration and associated infrastructure,” Cr Rutherford said.
“Planned improvements will increase the life of the facility by a further 20 – 25 years.
“We understand how important this facility is to our Northside community and our plan is to restore it to become a thriving recreational hub for families again.
“In the meantime, we want to remind everyone that the pool is still open for businesses.”
