Rockhampton Regional Council today announced its financial support to the tune of $45,000 for the Australian Brahman Breeder’s Association (ABBA) which is set to stage the 18th World Brahman Congress in Rockhampton during May 2016.
In today’s Council Committee meeting, Council resolved to sponsor the six day event which celebrates and showcases the achievements of Brahman cattle genetics and their commercial attributes.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the economic benefit of the Congress will inject millions directly into the community while putting the Region on the map.
“The event is expected to exceed 9,000 visitors with a direct spend in the Rockhampton Region of more than $2 million and an overall community benefit of $6 million,” Cr Strelow said.
“As Australia’s Beef Capital the Rockhampton Region recognises the importance of sponsoring this global event which will put our Region on display to the world and showcase our significant cattle industry.”
It will be the third time the Australian Brahman Breeders Association has hosted the Congress in Rockhampton.
Mayor Strelow said the prominence of Brahman cattle in Central Queensland provided the backbone of the Region’s most successful beef events
“The World Brahman Congress laid the foundation for Rockhampton to host the first Beef Expo in 1988, and our support for these events is critical to their success so we can continue hosting them in the future,” she said.
The event will run between 16 - 21 May 2016
