ANZAC Day services across the region

Australians across the country and around the world will pause on 25 April to mark ANZAC Day, a time to remember those who have served, and continue to serve, our nation.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said ANZAC Day holds deep significance in the Australian calendar, and residents will have a range of local opportunities to pay their respects.
“This year marks the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, a milestone that reminds us of the legacy left by those who came before us,” Mayor Williams said.
“From Gallipoli in 1915 to conflicts and peacekeeping missions since, ANZAC Day honours all who have served, past and present.
“There are services and commemorations happening right across our region, offering everyone the chance to reflect and acknowledge the sacrifices made.”
Services will be held in Rockhampton, Gracemere, Mount Morgan, Westwood, Bouldercombe, Marmor and Alton Downs, with marches also taking place in Rockhampton, Gracemere, Mount Morgan and Marmor.
Following the Rockhampton March, Council will host a free sausage sizzle at Riverside Park.
The CQ Military Museum will open from 5.30am with breakfast and other activities, while the Rats of Tobruk Association will hold a commemorative service at 8.30am, which will include the unveiling of a plaque honouring former President, the late Tom Wyatt.
A separate service will be held on Thursday 24 April at 10.30am at Stenhouse Park, Lakes Creek Road, Koongal.
Mayor Williams said the range of services throughout our region is a testament to the value our community places on the sacrifices made by our armed forces.
Chair of the Rockhampton ANZAC Day Committee, Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson praised the dedication of local organisers.
“These events wouldn’t be possible without the many volunteers and community members working behind the scenes to ensure the region can come together in remembrance,” Cr Wickerson said.
“It’s important we give people plenty of notice to plan ahead, especially with Easter coming up.
“I encourage everyone to check Council’s website for service times, parking details, and road closures and most importantly, to take time on 25 April to honour our veterans.”
