Animal Inspections to Sweep Kawana

Starting 9 September, Rockhampton Regional Council Officers will be conducting animal inspections at properties in Kawana.

The inspections are part of the regular Animal Inspection Program to ensure animal owners are adhering to relevant State and Local Laws which require pets to be microchipped and registered.

Officers will also be checking owners are maintaining suitable enclosures for their animals.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers explained microchipping is important because it ensures any cats or dogs who become lost can be reunited with their owners.

“The focus of the inspections is making sure pets are being kept responsibly,” Cr Mathers said.

“If you are a responsible pet owner who has microchipped your animal, kept up to date with your pet registration and care for your cat or dog in a responsible way, then you have nothing to worry about.

“The program allows Council to ensure that pet owners are following all relevant Local Laws, which are intended to protect the welfare of animals.

“Inspection programs also give Council Officers and members of the community to discuss any concerns.”

The inspections will be conducted throughout the suburb of Kawana over a 12-week period, from 9 September to 1 December.

Inspection times will take place between 7am to 6pm Monday to Sunday.

Residents are also reminded that dog registration renewal notices were issued last month and are due on 31 August. 

Dog owners are eligible for a discount if the registration is paid by the due date.

Convenient payment options include in-person payments at Customer Service Centres, online via the eServices webpage, BPAY, or by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centre.

Residents who have a registered dog but have not received a renewal notice, or need to update their address details, will need to contact Customer Service on 4932 9000.
