The Rockhampton Region is one step closer to securing its vision as becoming the hub for the supply of labour and services to the Galilee Basin due to recent announcements.
Rockhampton Regional Councillor and Resource Industry spokesperson Councillor Neil Fisher said the Region could potentially see itself placed in the box seat and able to service the expansion of the Galilee Basin.
“Komatsu’s recent $3.7 billion acquisition of Joy Global is forecasted to see the manufacturing equipment business double in size, creating a stronger core mining business nationally,” Cr Fisher said.
“Komatsu has also been announced as the supplier of haulage and other equipment to Adani’s proposed Carmichael Mine in the Galilee Basin.”
Additionally, during the April 2016 Bowen Basin Mining Club Luncheon, Komatsu revealed details of the next generation of Super Haulers to the Adani Mining Project.
Cr Fisher said the Komatsu 980E-4 Dump Truck will be the first of its type used in Australia and will dwarf all other equipment previously used within the resources industry.
“Locally, Joy Global has played a very strong role and is largely respected in the Region’s resources industry, being one of the largest employers on the Parkhurst Plant,” he said.
“It is progress such as this that is moving our Region towards becoming the major hub for the supply of labour and services to the Galilee Basin.”
Council has continued to proactively create new opportunities in the Rockhampton Region within the resource industry, building strong relationships to not only the major mining companies but also suppliers such as Komatsu.
Within the past week, Rockhampton Regional Council’s Mayor and Councillors have attended the QME Expo in Mackay as well as high level meetings with key stakeholders.
Cr Fisher said attendance at such events was vital for the Region to help shape the foundations of economic prosperity in the future.
