Australia Day Winners Announced

Rockhampton Region’s outstanding achievers, volunteers and sportspeople were recognised on Friday evening for their professionalism, dedication and community contributions in the 2015 Australia Day Awards Ceremony, held at City Hall.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow was proud to announce the winners of this year’s Awards, and present them with their medals.
“It is an honour to award these dedicated and committed residents that I am so proud to have in our community. Their achievements have been absolutely outstanding,” Mayor Strelow said.
“To learn how modest our recipients are for what they have achieved and contributed in our local community in so many different ways is very inspiring and humbling. Many of them dedicate tireless hours helping organisations and are making tremendous changes to the lives of others.
“Our Citizen of the Year, Carl Burgoyne, has shown an unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe with 24 years in the Queensland Police Service. He is highly regarded as an admirable person for his extraordinary achievements.
“Our Young Citizen of the Year, Chay Conaglen, has represented our community with pride and is an extremely passionate and talented young member who will continue to excel and achieve great things in the future.
“I congratulate all our wonderful recipients for their outstanding accomplishments and successes. Your Australian qualities of community spirit, helping those in need or simply being the best you can is extraordinary.”
