In a first for the Region, Rockhampton Regional Council will host the popular Bowen Basin Mining Club’s (BBMC) networking luncheon in September - and it’s anticipated to be a sell out!

Mayor Margaret Strelow said it’s crucial for local businesses vying for their slice of the resources sector to attend the event in order to build strong relationships within the industry.

“Council and our local businesses have always been strong supporters of the Bowen Basin Mining Club so we are thrilled to host the luncheon in Rockhampton for the first time,” Mayor Strelow said.

“This is a testament to our local businesses that have travelled to Mackay, Emerald and Moranbah for many years now to make the most out of the BBMC networking opportunities, and also to our Councillors who have persistently advocated for Rockhampton to host the bi-monthly event.

“This is an incredible networking opportunity right on our doorstep. I cannot stress enough how important it is for businesses who may have never attended a BBMC luncheon to make the most of this opportunity that we hope will continue into the future.”

Bowen Basin Mining Club Director, Jodie Currie, said the growth of heavy industries within the Rockhampton Region and Rockhampton's proximity to the southern Bowen Basin means mining is a great option for Rockhampton businesses looking to diversify.

“Several of the BBMC's long-time sponsors are Rockhampton businesses who are flourishing in the mining industry, like SMW Group and Coxon's Radiators,” Ms Currie said.

“The feedback we hear often is that you never leave a BBMC luncheon without having made a valuable connection. Especially in the current economy, it’s really important for businesses to make those connections and use the capability of networks like the BBMC to be more successful in tendering opportunities."

With game changing projects like Adani and the re-opening of the Mount Morgan Mine in the pipeline, businesses will benefit from guest speaker Brendan Pearson, Chief Executive of Minerals Councils of Australia, and Tony James, Managing Director of Carbine Resources.

Businesses are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure they do not miss out on the networking experience.
