CBD Redevelopment Framework finalised to set future direction

Rockhampton Regional Council has set the course for the CBD over the next 20 years with Councillors unanimously adopting the Rockhampton CBD Redevelopment Framework.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said the body of work has been in development since last year and is a critical input to Council’s signature CBD redevelopment project, incorporating ongoing community engagement to present a consolidated 20 year plan for the Rockhampton CBD.

“CBD Revitalisation has been a focus for both Council and the community with the public consultation undertaken this year demonstrating that this Framework has both substance and broad public support to deliver real outcomes,” Mayor Strelow said.

“With the Framework now adopted, we can look to this document as a starting point for all future planning of our CBD. Equally important, we can also use it as a foundation for developing a business case for gaining state and federal funding support for key projects, with the knowledge that it has the community’s support.”

The Framework lays out the economic strategies, catalyst projects and physical improvements that will combine to deliver success in the CBD. This includes the desired future form, function and look and feel of the CBD.

An important element of this vision is the aspiration for future streetscaping in the CBD, which has been further detailed in an associated document to the Framework – the Rockhampton CBD Streetscape Design Manual.

The Redevelopment Framework and Streetscape Design Manual will be living documents that evolve with the aspirations of the Rockhampton community and changing external environment over time.

Both documents are available on Council’s website
