CBD gains 60 all-day parking spaces

The Rockhampton CBD has gained 60 all-day parking spaces after Rockhampton Regional Council converted them from three hour parking bays to help relieve parking pressures.

The all-day parking spaces are located on the riverbank side of Quay street between William and Derby Streets, while the building side of Quay Street will remain limited to three hour parking for customers.

Council is continuing to explore additional areas that could be converted to all-day parking to counteract the temporary loss of parking on Quay Street between Denham and William Streets as it undergoes a major makeover until mid-2017 and the also the temporary loss of 30 informal spaces on the low bank which closes later this month for the construction of the new Pier.

The CBD, however, has gained new permanent parking areas as a result of the redevelopment, with 15 additional spaces in Denham Street following the demolition of the Rotunda and road re-opening, and an increase in parking outside the Criterion Hotel on Fitzroy Street from nine to 16 spaces.

Parking has also been reinstated along Quay Street’s Stage 1A (Fitzroy to Denham Street) since its opening late last year.
