Central Highlands cavalry deployed to Rockhampton Region

Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) has swiftly deployed 23 Council workers to the Rockhampton Region after a request for assistance was sent on Sunday.

The convoy arrived yesterday afternoon bringing with them equipment from Capella, Duaringa and Emerald including fuel, loaders, trucks, floats, backhoes and a street sweeper.

Additional equipment has also been arranged with external resources bringing earthmoving machinery and a crew of seven operators with a chipper from Duaringa.

CHRC Mayor Peter Maguire says he appreciated the support Rockhampton Regional Council gave his community during the 2011 floods and it’s time to return the favour.

“We are more than happy to assist where we can by providing extra manpower and resources, especially to communities devastated in our own Region,” he said.

“It’s important that Local Governments support each other during these critical times which is why we sent our crew to assist in the recovery as soon as possible.”

The Central Highlands cavalry will assist with the clean up over the next five days, and depending on progress CHRC will reassess at the end of the week whether a replacement crew is required.
