The Consul General Of The People’s Republic of China, Dr. Zhao Yongchen, has made a whirlwind trip to Rockhampton this week to explore the potential for increased trade and investment opportunities in the beef industry.
Dr. Zhao Yongchen recently connected with Rockhampton Regional Council at the Advance Queensland Innovation and Investment Summit last month where he expressed his interest in strengthening the bilateral relations between China and Central Queensland.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said the Consul General's visit, which coincided with the 18th World Brahman Congress, was an opportune time to meet with key representatives in the agriculture industry while showcasing our role in the global supply chain.
"We were delighted to welcome Dr Yongchen and his party to Rockhampton this week, especially as we celebrate the 18th World Brahman Congress which highlights our industry’s major role in the supply chain of domestic and premium beef exports to Asia and Europe," Mayor Strelow said.
"With industry representatives on hand, it meant that the Consul General and his party could have encouraging conversations on the current export arrangements to China and the potential to expand."
Yesterday, the tour continued to Fitzroy Vale Station where helicopter mustering provided a genuine outback experience followed by a visit to the Teys Australia beef processing plant.
Mayor Strelow said the visit highlights the significance of ongoing trade relations between both countries.
“The China-Australia Free Trade agreement certainly has bolstered our collaboration with China and we hope their visit to the Region leaves a lasting impression of our capability to expand.”
