Council’s Advance Rockhampton joins Queensland Resources Council

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Economic Development arm, Advance Rockhampton has reached a new milestone after recently becoming a regional partner of the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).

Mayor Margaret Strelow said this is a landmark membership that Council has developed with QRC - the preeminent authority for the resources sector in Queensland.

“Council is absolutely committed to leading the push to develop our Region through the initiatives of our Advance Rockhampton team that will focus on driving economic growth, creating local jobs and attracting private sector investment,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We have our Economic Action plan that maps out our direction and our Advance Rockhampton team offers skills and expertise in all the right areas that our Region needs to grow. This is now the time for Council to set a clear example and get things moving.

“The team has already secured key economic growth opportunities for the Region, including MOU’s with Korean education institutes as well as attracting new agricultural endeavours.”

As the Economic Development Organisation for the Rockhampton Region, Advance Rockhampton will focus on key projects including the Airport, defence, trade and investment and agriculture and is also an advocate and enabler for tourism and events.

Establishing an Economic Development Organisation within Council was a primary action outlined in Council’s Economic Action Plan.

Council will shortly be forming an Economic Development Advisory Committee of key business people within the Rockhampton Region to provide advice to Council.

“This is a fresh approach whereby our Advance Rockhampton team will work directly and collectively with representatives from various industries within our Region,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We know that resource companies and large contractors are often needing to make sure that they have a certain percentage of 'local content'. The registration of businesses with Advance Rockhampton will help locals prove that they are truly local.

“Our membership will be free of charge to all Rockhampton Region businesses to take advantage of the services we offer in growing and developing our Region.”
