Council’s Smart City proposal ticking boxes for our future

Rockhampton Regional Council's Smart City proposal ticks a lot of boxes for the new Advance Queensland agenda that was outlined by Minister Leeanne Enoch MP in Rockhampton yesterday.

Mayor Margaret Strelow met with Minister Enoch and Minister Bill Byrne to outline the multifaceted proposal which begins with improving Council's own processes and will hopefully end with a not-for-profit 'Telco' providing a competitive advantage to local business.

“I was very impressed with Minister Enochs understanding of the complexity of the environment needed for a modern city to attract and retain the sort of jobs that the Knowledge Economy will create,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We have impressive 'old' foundations that are a perfect setting to develop a great 'new city'.

“Our University, our great old buildings and laneways and a deeply creative community coupled with our easy connection to southern Capitals are the building blocks.

“Collaborations with CQUniversity and with successful local entrepreneurs can put us in the box seat for an exciting ride.”

Minister Enoch pointed the Council towards new funding programs which might provide support for the 'co-working space' which forms part of the proposal.
