Council Crews throw money in the hat for ‘Fill a Fridge’

Council Parks Crews who have laboured under the hot sun to bring the city’s debris under control have gone one step further.

The crews dug deep to donate $400 to the ‘Fill a Fridge’ campaign which was launched by Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow with the Salvation Army just days after TC Marcia struck the Region.

Mayor Strelow said that the generosity of Council staff, with both their time and now their money, has been an inspiration to the community.

“These guys have worked in some pretty harsh conditions for the last week and a half and yet they are getting on with the job,” Mayor Strelow said.

Council’s Parks staff member, Michael Curran, says his colleagues were very keen to get behind the cause.

“We thought it was a good idea to get behind it just to let the community know that even though we’re out there working for a dollar we feel sorry that there are a lot of people worse off than us and we just want to help,” he said.

Mayor Strelow says she is incredibly proud of the whole community and the Council workforce who have contributed to this cause to help people get back on their feet.

“They’re inspirational, the crews have hardly had a rest since Marcia hit and for them to be thinking of those who are worse off and to be putting out money, I’m incredibly proud of everyone,” she said.
