Council and CQUniversity collaborate for a smart future

Council and CQUniversity are today progressing with plans for a collaborative future after Mayor Strelow and CQUniversity Professor Scott Bowman met to explore strategic partnership opportunities.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said ongoing collaboration between Council and CQUniversity is the key to successfully mapping out a future for the Region.
“The signing of the MOU earlier this year was the first step in establishing an agreement for a close working partnership to support businesses, jobs, growth and economic development in the Region,” Mayor Strelow said.
“Our first big ticket item in the partnership was the announcement of our bid for a Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) to be based in Rockhampton, which we have received an overwhelming response of support from the community.”
As two of the Region’s major economic drivers, this is only the beginning for CQUniversity and Rockhampton Regional Council.
Agriculture and research and innovation is also a major talking point between the two organisations as part of the Smart Way Forward Program, something Professor Scott Bowman says CQUniversity is pleased to be a part of.
“This will transform Rockhampton into one of the most innovative regions in Australia,” he said.
