Rockhampton Regional Council’s in-kind support totalling $18,600 for the Queensland 500cc Solo Championships is bound to have fans revving up trackside on Saturday 5 December.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the in-kind hire of the Rockhampton Showgrounds for motorcycling’s elite will help ensure the region remains top of mind for leading sporting events.

“Rockhampton has a spectacular reputation for producing world-class athletes and champions from a number of sports, most notably cycling and hockey, and we definitely have the arenas and sporting grounds to accommodate them,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The Rockhampton Showgrounds is the perfect arena to showcase motorcycling’s emerging stars and will attract some of Australia’s and the word’s best riders.

“It’s anticipated the event will attract upwards of 5000 people, with many avid fans from around Australia visiting our great Region.

“Not only will local residents and visitors experience the thrill and excitement of seeing these professional athletes in action, but there will be obvious economic benefits for our local businesses as well.

“Hosting a sporting event of this calibre is a great boost for our community and only reinforces that the Rockhampton Region can match it with the best across Australia.”
