Council backs Black Dog Ball 2022

Rockhampton Regional Council has once again thrown their support behind the Smyth Financial Black Dog Ball through its Community Assistance Program (CAP).
Acting Mayor Neil Fisher said the event is one of the most popular and important events on Rockhampton’s social calendar and this year hundreds will flock to Browne Park for this iconic annual fundraiser.
“Now in its tenth year, the Black Dog Ball is something we have long supported, and I am delighted we are continuing to do so,” Acting Mayor Fisher said.
“The event raises thousands of dollars each year to raise awareness and remove the stigma surrounding depression and mental health issues in regional Queensland.
“I don’t think there is a single person in our region that hasn’t been affected by mental health difficulties, whether it is their own experience or that of someone they know.
“It is vital to talk about our mental health openly and without fear of judgement, and Council’s support of this event will help more and more people do just that.”
Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said the funding made available to the committee through the CAP means they can a deliver an event to really delight the crowds.
“This year the Black Dog Ball committee were successful in securing $10,000 funding through the CAP’s Major Events category,” Cr Wickerson said.
“We are honoured to be able to support this very small and dedicated committee to put on such a fantastic event.
“If you are part of a community group who could use a little financial assistance - we want to hear from you!
“Round 1 of the CAP closes this Friday 7 October, so if you want to find out more, please head to Council’s website.”
One of the Black Dog Ball organisers, Natasha Price said the committee were thrilled at the news.
“The support from Rockhampton Regional Council makes such a difference to the event and what we are trying to achieve.
“There are obviously costs associated with putting on such a big event and the $10,000 from Council will allow everyone who is coming to have a fantastic time while also ensuring even more of the money raised goes to our beneficiaries.
“The money raised at the Smyth Financial Black Dog Ball 2022 will benefit the CQ Community Suicide Prevention Network Inc. and End Loneliness Inc.
“If you don’t have tickets to the ball and would still like to support these fantastic organisations, you can purchase tickets in the raffle, or bid on auction items.”
