Council employees celebrate 25 years

Four Rockhampton Regional Council employees this week celebrated an outstanding 25 years of service with the organisation.

Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon said Mark Rehbein, Brendan Dobsa, Ted Turner and Gary Huff were now part of the impressive 25 Year Club.

“It’s a significant achievement to work for the same organisation for 25 years, particularly these days, so I congratulate and thank them on their outstanding and lengthy service to Council,” Mr Pardon said.

“Each employee has contributed enormously to the organisation from using and improving their skills to sharing their extensive knowledge and deep understanding of how our Council works.

“It’s a great personal milestone and one they should be very proud of. We’re hoping one day they’ll catch up to our longest serving employee who has been with us for 46 years.”

Council initiated the 25 Year Club last year to recognise and celebrate employees who have contributed years of continuous service. There are two employees with more than 45 years of service and currently 60 members in the 25 Year Club which equates to an astounding 1,945 years combined service.

Mark Rehbein has held many positions within Council including a gardener and a plant label engraver. His current role as Visitor Services Officer at the Botanic Gardens keeps him busy and brings him great joy.

“During the past 25 years I’ve loved working in the great outdoors. Some of my fondest memories have been meeting the many visitors enjoying the Botanic Gardens and the Rocky Zoo,” Mark said.

“I’ve accumulated years of knowledge of plants, animals and habitats and it’s wonderful to see children’s faces light up with amazement when they learn something new.

“Above all else though, it’s the many friends I’ve made within all my work areas that has truly made a difference.”

  • Ted Turner – Plumbing and Drainage Inspector, Regional Services
  • Gary Huff – Truck driver/Labourer Regional Services
