Rockhampton Regional Council is delivering real skills for real jobs with Councillors yesterday voting to extend a highly success training program for businesses to improve their qualifications.

As part of the ‘Gear Up Rocky’ initiative driven by Council’s Economic Development Arm, Advance Rockhampton, Council delivered a range of seminars and training courses including a Certificate IV in Small Business Management, which ended up being oversubscribed.

Due to the overwhelming response and uptake from local businesses, Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council is proud to once again offer a subsidy that will make the course free for businesses keen to improve their daily operations.

“Council was absolutely overwhelmed with the demand and positive response for the Certificate IV last year, so we are proud to once again be offering a subsidy that will make this course free for even more local businesses,” Mayor Strelow said.

“It is exclusively designed for small business owners who will be able to transfer the skills from the course into their everyday operations and is a very small price to pay when it comes to adding value to our local workforce.”

Mayor Strelow said this is just one of the ‘Gear up Rocky’ initiatives breaking new ground for Local Government by actively driving economic development in our backyard.

The Certificate IV in Small Business Management is fully subsidised as a result of Council’s collaboration with Small Business Solutions, an arm of TAFE Queensland.

Registration will soon be available on Council’s website  under For Business > Gear up Rocky > Initiatives to help your business.
