On Sunday help arrived for the Rockhampton Region from the west as Central Highlands Regional Council sent 23 staff to help with the clean-up after Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

Rockhampton Regional Council CEO, Evan Pardon said the provision of staff assisted greatly in accelerating the clean-up process.

“Central Highlands Regional Council has been a great support immediately sending staff and equipment for the clean-up of our Region,” Mr Pardon said.

“Our immediate Council neighbours mustered staff and equipment from around the region including Capella, Duaringa, Springsure, Blackwater and Emerald.

“We have received fuel, loaders, trucks, floats, earthmoving machinery, backhoes and a street sweeper.

“This is what Local Government is about; helping each other and providing assistance with the common goal of making our communities better.”

Crews have been lending a hand and joining Rockhampton Regional Council crews in loading, carting, chopping, sawing, chipping, sweeping and any other required jobs.

Central Highlands Regional Council’s Manager, Parks and Recreation Mark Giebel said that making the decision to send staff was a no-brainer.

“It was a pleasure to lend a hand to our neighbours in need,” said Mr. Giebel.

“After the 2011 floods, we received tremendous support from neighbouring Councils and we are simply paying it forward.

“Our Community knows that the support would be reciprocated if we have the need again, and all of our staff are just happy that they are able to help,” he said.

Central Highlands Regional Council staff and equipment will remain in the Rockhampton Region for two weeks.
