Council honours Beef Baron

As a timely tribute to one of the Region’s greatest beef barons, Rockhampton Regional Council today proposed to re-name a portion of Lion Creek Road after Graeme Acton in recognition of his contributions to the beef industry.

During today’s Council meeting, Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said his contributions to agriculture and our local community were nothing short of a great success.

Mayor Strelow said now is an appropriate time to pay tribute with the recent conclusion of Beef 2015 and the anniversary of his passing.

“Beef Week is part of the fabric of our community, and I believe now is a great time to re-name part of Lion Creek road after Graeme who was once Chairman of Beef Australia,” Mayor Strelow said.

A section of Lion Creek Road adjacent to Victoria Park and between North and Hall Street has been identified as the possible location to be named after Mr Acton.

“Council believes this part of the road would be a suitable choice as it is a major thoroughfare during the event.

“This is our legacy to his family,” she said.

Council will undertake consultation for the proposed re-naming.
