Council launches Business Recovery Plan

Rockhampton Regional Council has today launched its Cyclone Marcia Business Recovery and Resilience Plan which outlines initiatives, actions and projects to support business recovery and growth in the Region.
The three phase recovery plan has been developed in consultation with RPS Group and the local Business Recovery Committee established just days after TC Marcia, and is chaired by Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow.
Mayor Strelow said the document will be a work in progress with additional actions being added as they are identified along the way.
“The plan identifies short, medium and long term initiatives to stimulate business and as we work through these phases we will tailor the plan to suit the needs of our local economy,” Mayor Strelow said.
“This is a beginning point for our economic recovery, it is recognising some things which have already been done but is looking forward to what else we need to achieve.”
Mayor Strelow says the plan includes practical solutions such a building underground power, placement of street trees and power lines and ways to build resilience in our business community.
“Things had been tough already with the resources taking a downturn, and this was probably the last straw for some businesses, but for the businesses that have reopened this document helps map what we are going to do and encourages them to prosper.
“I appreciate the goodwill from various business groups within our community who are willing to work together as we look at ways to stimulate business and enhance our recovery process,” she said.
Mayor Strelow said the Recovery Plan focuses further beyond immediate actions required for businesses to reopen and identifies ways in which the Region can enhance its resilience in the future should another disaster occur.
“While the three phases will be put into effect over the next two years, we need immediate support from our community to buy local, support our businesses and rebuild consumer confidence,” she said.
