Council looks to address parking concerns for riverbank redevelopment

Published on 11 September 2015

Early consultation on the riverbank has been strongly positive with one or two consistent themes and questions.

Preliminary designs currently out for consultation suggest a loss of car parking on the lower bank and a minor loss of parking on Quay Street.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said that car parking had shown to be a hugely important issue and that she understood how vital free car parking was to the economic health of our CBD.

“With this is in mind and to minimise the loss of car parking on the lower bank, I have asked the CEO to prepare a design which preserves all existing car parks on the lower bank,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We were going to lose around fifty car parks here and I understand that was going to cause some significant concern.

“Of course a final design is up to a final vote at the Council table,” she said.

Council is currently collating feedback received via the online survey which is still open to the public until September 18th.
