Council makes strategic investment on Quay Street

Rockhampton Regional Council has entered into a contract to purchase the former SGIO building on Quay Street.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said the building adds to Council’s important CBD property portfolio.
“This is a strategic purchase. Council owns the buildings on either side and this gives us a substantial parcel of land in the middle of the Quay Street redevelopment,” Mayor Strelow said.
The former SGIO building is situated between Customs House and the Enterprise Centre.
“While the purchase of the building stacked up on its own merits as an investment, Council's goal is to ultimately house a number of community uses in this precinct,” she said.
“We appreciate that there are currently leases and tenancies in place within the buildings and so any significant development is necessarily aimed at the medium term not the short term and would be subject to funding support from other levels of Government.”
