Council on track and on trend at innovation summit

Rockhampton Regional Council is keeping on track and on trend when it comes to innovation at the Queensland Government’s first ever Innovation and Investment Summit this week.
The Summit is the first of its kind, bringing business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, government and industry leaders to collaborate and generate new ideas.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said the Summit will be valuable for making connections at a time when Council is ramping up its innovation initiatives as part of the Smart Way Forward program.
“It’s very important for us to establish our credibility in the innovation space and to learn what others are doing,” Mayor Strelow said.
“I’m delighted by the State Government’s commitment to innovation and the push for new investment and jobs – this is the way of the future and this is the journey we will be a part of.”
Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk opened the summit this morning followed by some of the world’s top visionaries in technology and innovation including leaders from Apple, Google and Youtube.
Council’s Senior Digital Officer, Gareth Martin, and Business Development Officer, Lee Sunderland, are also attending the Summit as part of their role to drive the Region into the future.
“We’re here to make sure we are on track and on trend, and the good news so far is that we are doing all of the right things as we establish our Smart Way Forward strategy,” Mr Martin said.
“It’s a matter of making sure we’re at the front of the development rather than waiting for opportunities to filter through to us in regional areas.
“This is the perfect platform to be motivated and inspired by others.”
The three day Summit runs until Friday afternoon.
