Council revisits communities to hear residents’ top priorities

The second round of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Conversations campaign will kick off in Rockhampton this evening, with Frenchville residents being given the opportunity to discuss their priorities for their community.

During the initial sessions, Council collated the top priorities of each community, and is now delivering the results to see what can be considered for adoption in the 2015/16 budget.

Council recently finished the ‘Conversations’ in five rural communities where Mayor Strelow said the discussions were very positive and constructive.

“Roads are the number one priority for our rural residents, and I am pleased to say that since visiting the residents late last year, works in priority areas have either been completed or have commenced,” Mayor Strelow said.

Urban communities are also seeing small priority projects being achieved prior to the budget being handed down, with funding from the Councillor’s Divisional Budgets.

One of the priorities brought to Council’s attention at last years’ Community Conversations was the need to upgrade a concrete walkway around Frenchville State School.

“All of the Councillors are great advocates for their community, for example Councillor Fisher who was determined to have this walkway fixed for the residents,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The number of uses and the particular challenges around Frenchville State School have meant that this project was very important to this local community.

“Cr Fisher put the discretionary amount from his budget towards the development of this footpath and it is a great result,” she said.

Council decided to include additional sessions for the second round of Community Conversations with eight set to be held in Rockhampton over coming months.

Council invites all residents to come and have their say.
