Council seeking employment collaboration with local agencies

Published on 10 May 2016

Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking to collaborate with local agencies to develop job creation and preparation initiatives in the Region.

Agencies are invited to submit proposals for employment support initiatives such as workforce preparation strategies, opportunities for work experience and support for the development and start-up of new businesses and enterprises.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said partnering with agencies will help to identify what job opportunities are available across the full range of industries and sectors.

“Through collaboration we can combine resources and knowledge to help address the specific workforce issues that are unique to our Region,” Mayor Strelow said.

Mayor Strelow said Council is looking for an action plan with deliverables.

“Whether there is a way to better prepare or upskill workers or help youth get a foothold, we need to find the appropriate strategies and initiatives that will create job outcomes,” she said.

“It’s about getting back to what we know we do well and getting people trained in the right areas.”

Agencies that can provide opportunities to collaborate with Council to improve the efficiency of the labour market and job outcomes for the Region are encouraged to submit their applications to Council’s Rockhampton Customer Service Centre or email tenders@rrc.qld.gov.au  by 4pm Friday, 27 May 2016.
