Rockhampton Regional Council has taken another important step in ensuring a cleaner, greener future for the Region by this week endorsing plans for a new Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Environmental Councillor Drew Wickerson said the tick of approval allows Council’s Natural Resources Management Team to hit the ground running this year, and build a comprehensive strategy that will have ripple effects for years to come.

“At its heart, environmental sustainability and the development of this strategy is about what we can do to take care of the environment, so that our environment can continue to take care of us,” Cr Wickerson said.

“It will be developed with strong input from the community and key stakeholders and guide what we as a Council and a community can continue to do to protect our environment for current and future generations.

“We’ll be taking account of all the work that has been done in this space to date, and once complete – roll out multiple new and exciting projects that our community can get behind and be involved with.”

Cr Wickerson said Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy will be developed this year, with opportunities for stakeholders and the community to contribute in the near future.

“We look forward to working with the community and our partners to advance sustainability right across our Region and keeping the community up to date throughout the journey,” Cr Wickerson said.
