Council supports major events in 2016
Published on 16 December 2015
Four major events potentially attracting thousands of visitors to our Region are the big winners in round two of the Community Assistance Program with Rockhampton Regional Council allocating just over $57,000 in funding.
The Community Assistance Program (CAP) provides assistance through community grants and sponsorship for major projects and events.
Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said just over $123,000 was allocated to a range of community, sports and not-for-profit groups.
“We’re again sponsoring one of our most respected and popular events, the Rockhampton Eisteddfod, to the tune of $20,000 which draws people from across Central Queensland each year,” Cr Swadling said.
“The Challenge the Mountain event staged at Mount Archer was always going to bring in a range of competitors from aspiring to seasoned athletes, so next year we’ll support them again with sponsorship of just over $17,000 to help build on this year’s success.”
Across the board, Council supported 20 organisations in this second round with funds ranging from $1000 to $20,000.
“It’s vital that we support a variety of events, as well as provide grant funding for facility upgrades or projects, and we achieved that again in this round,” Cr Swadling said.
“We’ve supported events for Youth Week, International Women’s Day, multicultural activities and Lifeline’s Bookfest to name a few.
“Our not-for-profit groups really need a helping-hand so community members and visitors can experience, learn and enjoy a range of different activities.”
The Community Assistance Program enhances the region’s capacity, liveability and economy by giving our local organisations financial assistance to deliver projects that contribute to those aims.
