Council to deepen trade and investment opportunities with Singapore

Rockhampton Regional Council is set to host one of the largest Asian-based infrastructure and urban development firms next week as part of a Singaporean trade mission to receive an update on defence and investment activities in the Region.
The delegation will consist of representatives from Surbana Jurong, a government-owned consultancy company employing over 13,000 people, SMEC Holdings, an Australian infrastructure consulting firm, and International Enterprise Singapore – a government body facilitating overseas growth of Singapore-based companies.
The delegation will meet with key government agencies and businesses ahead of the forthcoming Shoalwater Bay expansion and will explore potential development opportunities in the Rockhampton Region during its two day visit.
Rockhampton Regional Council’s relationship with Surbana Jurong and SMEC began in 2016 through the Mayoral Trade Mission to Singapore where Rockhampton investment opportunities were shared.
Rockhampton Mayor Margaret Strelow met with the companies again in 2017 during the Federal Ministerial Trade Mission to Singapore and said the upcoming visit will continue to build on existing relationships to facilitate mutually beneficial business, trade and investment opportunities between the two Regions.
“The trade mission will allow Council to provide a brief on our economic priorities and strategic directions for the Rockhampton Region, and to explore potential trade opportunities that would see us further strengthen our trade with Singapore,” Mayor Strelow said.
“Each meeting built upon the previous foundations that have been laid by Rockhampton Regional Council works towards our ultimate goal of increasing trade and investment in lucrative international markets.
“In terms of investment, Singapore is such an important potential investor in our region and we think we’re absolutely right for direct investment now by Singaporean business people. The opportunities for collaborating generally are boundless.”
This Singaporean trade mission is one of 45 delegations Council’s Economic Development arm, Advance Rockhampton, has welcomed in the past 15 months.
