Rockhampton Regional Councillors are making the most of the opportunity to once again meet with the Queensland Cabinet when they visit Gladstone this weekend.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said that Councillors would be presenting some 'hot button' issues, with Mount Morgan and Gracemere at the top of the list.
“There is a need for significant investment in Mount Morgan, which will be raised,” Mayor Strelow said.
Cr Cherie Rutherford, elected member for Division 5, said the government’s support would help the Mount Morgan community grow.
“At a time when Carbine Resources are stepping up their plans to rework the tailings at the mine site, it’s also a great time for government investment to bring a new lease of life to this important regional community,” Cr Rutherford said.
“The Carbine Resources are looking very promising, and with 70 fulltime jobs involved, it would be a real boost to the local Mount Morgan Community.”
Cr Ellen Smith, elected member for Division 4, said the Gracemere High School would also be discussed.
“Of great importance to Gracemere community is that we once again put forward the case for a new High School for Gracemere,” Cr Smith said.
“Of all of the issues that get raised with me, the High School is one of the big ones.
“And of course another big one for Gracemere is the importance of upgrading Lawrie Street and we will once again meet with the Minister for Main Roads to make the case.”
Mayor Strelow said last but not least will be discussions with Minister Leanne Enoch about Smart Region and the Digital Strategy.
