Council urges residents to be prepared

Rockhampton Regional Council has been busy cleaning up and preparing the Region for severe weather the last couple days including general maintenance and creek catchment clean ups.
Local Disaster Management Group Deputy Chair, Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council was now urging all residents to commence their own clean ups in response to the latest notification from BoM that Tropical Cyclone Marcia is expected to reach landfall as a Category 4 early Friday morning.
Household preparation tips for Cyclone Marcia
- Ensure your house and roof are in good condition
- Trim tree branches well clear of your house
- Clear property of loose sheet iron and other potential missiles (including outdoor furniture)
- Fill as many water containers as possible
- Close shutters
- Board up or heavily tape all windows
- Prepare the strongest part of your building (usually an internal hallway or bathroom) using strong tables and mattresses
- Prepare an emergency kit including a battery-operated radio
- Listen to radio (837AM ABC) and/or television for further advice.
