Rockhampton Regional Council is set to receive $7million from the Federal Government following its successful application in the National Stronger Regions funding program.

Mayor Margaret Strelow this morning welcomed the funding announcement from Federal Member for Capricornia saying the funding will further enhance the Riverbank Revitalisation project.

“The extra $7million from the Federal Government will ensure the riverbank remains a high quality project that will improve recreational activities,” Mayor Strelow said.

“It will allow us to consider options including extending improvements north of the Fitzroy Bridge and possibly up to the Ski Gardens.

“Our long-term vision is to see the revitalisation of the riverbank extend along Victoria Parade seamlessly linking in our revitalised riverbank precinct to and beyond our state-of-the-art pool complex at Victoria Park.”

The Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service was also awarded a $2.344 million boost which will allow for the construction of a new two bay hangar and medical aviation centre.

“As a large regional community is it critical to see essential services like the Capricorn Helicopter Service be provided with funding that will increase their capabilities through new facilities,” Mayor Strelow said.

“We are extremely grateful to welcome over $9 million dollars in our Region - it will boost confidence in our local community through job creation.”

The Federal funding for Council was capped at $10million. Council applied for $7million for the Riverbank Project and a further $3 million for the Gracemere Sewerage Water Treatment Plant, which was unsuccessful.
