Do you have a great idea for Australia Day?

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow wants to see Australia Day celebrations from one end of the region to another.
With that in mind, Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking applications from community groups in the Region to apply for a grant to stage Australia Day activities in 2016.
The Australia Day Community Events Grants program will enable people to celebrate Australia Day in the way that best fits their own communities.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Cr Margaret Strelow said that in keeping with a broad commitment across a range of council activities, the Council wanted to look at handing Australia Day celebrations to the local communities.
"It's all about recognising that the communities of the Region have pride in their sense of identity," she said.
“Australia Day Celebrates who we are. We want to see ‘celebration’ from one end of our great region to the other!”
"The grants are aimed at enabling our region's communities to host events that promote the objectives of Australia Day and in doing so provide a vehicle by which people can unite and connect as Australians."
“If you've got a great idea, big or small, and just need a little bit of cash to help make it happen this is the fund for you,” Cr Strelow said.
More information is available in the application kits, which are available from Rockhampton Regional Council Customer Service phone 4932 9000 and online here .
Applications close on Friday 18 September, with applicants notified by Friday 16 October.
