Dog registration increase to be introduced 1 July

Rockhampton Regional Council has today announced an increase in annual dog registration fees from 1 July.
Councillor for Planning and Regulation, Grant Mathers, said that the annual fee will increase by $10.
“We all know that ensuring your dog is registered is an incredibly important part of pet ownership,” Cr Mathers said.
“Because it is so important we have resisted putting up fees for a number of years, but we’re at the stage now that it’s necessary to ensure we continue to carry out effective animal management for our community.
“Registration fees collected by Council are designed to cover the costs of animal management in our Region.
“The fees go toward the range of animal management services that are offered by Council – from maintaining the animal management centre and rehoming animals to patrols and education programs.
“This hasn’t been a decision we have made lightly and while increasing fees is never something we want to do, it’s something we’re doing to ensure we’re properly equipped as a community to responsibly care for our animals.
Cr Mathers said that while fees have increased by $10 for all annual registrations except for pension card holders, annual registrations are always far lower for desexed and microchipped dogs.
“There’s a huge reduction in cost if your dog is desexed and microchipped – with an annual fee of $28 - compared to $132 if your dog isn’t.”
Fees from July 1:
- Entire dog - $132
- Entire dog (pension card holders) - $76
- Puppy - $42
- Desexed dog - $46
- Desexed dog (pension card holders) – no charge
- Desexed and microchipped dog - $28
- Desexed and microchipped dog (pension card holders) – no charge
