Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on local businesses to make a difference in someone’s life by donating their skills or expertise for the 2016 Homeless Connect event.

The Homeless Connect event provides an opportunity for those people who find themselves in difficult situations without safe, secure and affordable housing to attend a day where different services and agencies are on hand to provide help and basic essentials. This year, the event will be held on Thursday 14 July 2016.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said the response from businesses in the past six years had been fantastic and is calling on them again this year.

“The Homeless Connect event is a great example of how our community can come together and how wonderfully generous our business community is,” Cr Swadling said.

“We’re calling on and encouraging local businesses and organisations from Rockhampton, Mount Morgan and Gracemere to get involved and donate items or services again this year.

“Ideally we’re looking for doctors, dentists, hairdressers, masseuses and podiatrists to offer their services for free on the day, as well as a photographer to provide photos for identification purposes.

“We’re also looking for businesses to donate toothbrushes, soap, towels, blankets and non-perishable food as well.”

For the past six years, Rockhampton Regional Council has partnered with Government, business and community sector agencies to help those in the community who are cold, isolated, marginalised and often in circumstances out of their control – Help us to help others and get involved in Homeless Connect today.
