Elegance is Quay for this year’s Food and Wine Festival

The newly revitalised Quay Street is set to host another of the Region's signature events when the annual Food and Wine Festival takes over this weekend, from Friday 15 - 17 September.
In its elegant new location, the festival will offer the very best of Central Queensland’s local produce with celebrity chef demonstrations and live music keeping revellers entertained over three exciting days and nights.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council was once again a proud sponsor of the ever-growing event that will see thousands drawn to the city’s heart to celebrate and savour the strength of our Region’s agricultural industry.
“It is with great excitement that we welcome the Food and Wine Festival to our riverfront for its fifth year showcasing the very best food our Region has to offer while supporting local businesses with every mouthful,” Mayor Strelow said.
“We are very proud of the success the Food and Wine Festival has brought to the city over past years, and as it cements itself as a premier event for our Region, it also proves that we are the premier destination in Central Queensland when it comes to food, culture and lifestyle.”
Food and Wine Festival Director Timothy Buchholz said the local foodies will see the best line-up of top celebrity chefs yet, new master classes and more local produce than ever before.
“Our point of difference this year was to approach a lot of local cafes and restaurants to have a pop up kitchen with signature dishes and of course encouraging all chefs to source as much local produce as possible,” Mr Buchholz said.
“We are also introducing some new ticketed events including a Sportsman lunch on Saturday, a Sunday Roast and beer master classes in addition to our traditional interactive cooking classes, twilight tastings, and ladies of the vine high tea.
“We couldn’t be more excited to host the event on Quay Street this year, it’s an amazing space set against the river with the historic facades. We can only look forward to making this event bigger and better each year, thanks to the support of the community.”
Sounds and smells of the Food and Wine Festival will kick off on Friday 15th September, with ample car parking available throughout the CBD including the low bank carpark opposite Empire Hotel.
