Elphinstone Street reconstruction nears completion
Published on 10 March 2017
A reconstructed Elphinstone Street is just around the corner, with one final road closure required to complete the betterment works that commenced in November 2016.
Elphinstone Street, between Craig Street and Thozet Road will be closed from Monday 13 to Friday 17 March, weather permitting, to lay the final asphalt seal.
Once this final seal is completed, the road will be line marked and expected to be re-opened in time for the school holiday period.
Two bus stops along Elphinstone Street affected by the road closure have been temporarily relocated. One bus stop will now be located on the corner of Water and Elphinstone Streets and the second is located between Shepherd Street and Thozet Road.
Rockhampton region Council has worked with Sunbus to ensure there will be no disruption to the bus timetable.
The Elphinstone Street Betterment Project is a $1.14 million project funded through NDRRA with a Council contribution of $70,165 to deliver a more resilient and stabilised road.
Works have also included drainage upgrades to prevent future damage during inundations.
Elphinstone Street Betterment Project included the following works package:
- Kerb and Channel and drainage work
- Subgrade and sub base road pavement work
- Subsoil drainage work
- Culvert protection gabion work
- Footpath work
- Cement Treated Base Course
- Primer seal
- Asphalt surfacing
