FRW refurbishes North Rockhampton's sewer access chambers

Fitzroy River Water (FRW) has engaged contractors to refurbish North Rockhampton’s sewer access chambers using innovative technologies to minimise future costs.

Council’s Water Committee Chair Councillor Greg Belz said the $500,000 project was a smart move and would reduce the need for future costly reconstruction of the access chambers.

“Access chambers are an integral part of our sewer network and it is of utmost importance we maintain these assets,” Cr Belz said.

“The contractors have partnered with an innovative resin manufacturer to develop a spray on structural lining solution, which once applied will restore the access chambers to near new condition.

“Only key parts of North Rockhampton, including the Lakes Creek Road area will receive the refurbishment based on FRW’s involvement in the North Rockhampton Flood Mitigation project,” he said.

Refurbishment commenced in December 2014 and is expected to reach completion in mid-2015.

Cr Belz also mentioned the refurbishment of the sewer access chambers was just one of many projects on the go for FRW.

“In conjunction with this, we are also completing many other projects including a $1.7M sewer main relining program in the Region,” he said.
