Festival blossoming into day of fun for community

Mount Morgan Wattle Day is set to bloom on Sunday 1 September, promising a fun day out for festival goers.
Held at the historic Mount Morgan Railway Station, the Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc (MMPAD) has planned a program full of activities and entertainment, starting from 9am and running until 2.30pm.
Rockhampton Reigonal Council contributed $2,000 towards the festival through the Community Assistance Program which supports non-profit community-based organisations with funding for projects and events that promote the Region.
Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the festival, which highlights the town’s own Mount Morgan Silver Wattle, is always a much-loved date on the calendar.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the atmosphere and entertainment on offer at the festival,” Cr Rutherford said.
“You can also take a piece of the festival home with you, as the Golden Mount Nursery is once again supplying Mount Morgan Wattle seedlings as a wonderful give-away.
“It is encouraging to see the local support from so many local businesses, groups, artists and entertainers for the event.
“It is no surprise that the festival has grown to become one of Mount Morgan’s major events.”
MMPAD President John Steinberger said this year the festival promised to continue on from previous years, with a program filled with live music entertainment, free activities for ages and plenty of opportunities for participants to learn new skills.
“MMPAD has been organising this Wattle Day annual event since 2012,” he said.
“We owe our success each year to all the volunteers who contribute many tireless hours of effort to bring this event to fruition.
“The Mount Morgan Wattle Day Festival is a wonderful way in which Central Queensland residents can celebrate Wattle Day and Mount Morgan’s very own wattle the Mount Morgan Silver Wattle
“This is a great opportunity for the whole community to come together as everyone is welcome to join in. ”
The Community Assistance Program (CAP) supports non-profit community based organisations with funding for grants and sponsorships towards projects and events that enhance the region’s well-being.
Council offers assistance to eligible organisations through six categories. Each program has its own set of requirements and processes, as well as time frames for funded projects and events.
