Film Festival for the Young at Heart
Published on 07 April 2016
Are you ready for a good laugh, or maybe a good cry? Then come along to the Young at Heart Seniors Film Festival hosted by Rockhampton Regional Library on Friday 15 April and let your senses run wild.
The Young at Heart Seniors Film Festival recognises the best Australian short films starring actors aged 55 and over and is presented by the National Relay Service.
Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said the festival was a wonderful opportunity to get together with some friends for some great Aussie entertainment.
“We’re delighted to host the Young at Heart Seniors Film Festival screening a range of excellent short films starring some of Australia’s best actors, who are seniors themselves,” Cr Swadling said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our older generation to get together with friends and family to watch some very entertaining short films from different genres all fitting into a one-hour screening.
“The program features eight new home-grown short films with some of Australia’s most loved actors in leading roles and starring superb talent such as Robyn Nevin, Max Cullen, Colin Friels, Gillian Jones, Wayne Blair & Peter McAllum.
“The festival is aimed at senior community members and as such will include captioning for the hard of hearing.”
The National Relay Service Short Film program is an hour-long program of the best new short films from across Australia, and a chance to recognise older actors’ contribution to the Australian film industry.
The films - Venice, Death In Bloom, Sweat, Nulla Nulla, Goodnight Sweetheart, Harvey’s Dream, Imagination Game and The Wonderful – range from drama to black comedy, and together present a complex, nuanced and multi-faceted portrait of the Australian senior.
