Fishing is the hook for this year’s Harmony Day

An event at Rockhampton Regional Library this week will use our Region’s shared love of fishing to celebrate our diverse and multicultural population.
Communities Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said it promised to be an interesting event.
“Harmony Day is all about celebrating Australian multiculturalism, inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of their cultural background.
“1 in 10 people who live in the Rockhampton Region were born overseas, and 1 in 15 are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“Given our long history of fishing in the Fitzroy this seemed like a great theme, so come along to discover the many aspects of fishing including art, craft, songs, traditions, cooking and yarns from a culturally diverse perspective.
“You will be able to listen to stories from Darumbal elders, Fisheries, Council and local people as they share an insight into the age-old customs of fishing.”
The event will be held on Wednesday 21 March between 1pm and 3pm at Rockhampton Regional Library. The event is free and open to all – RSVP on 4936 8563.
