Footpath renewals paving the way for improved parks in Rockhampton

Upgrade works are currently underway at Rockhampton’s favourite parks, as Rockhampton Regional Council replaces more than 700 square metres of footpaths.
Councillor for Parks, Sports, and Public Spaces, Cherie Rutherford said the works include over 400 square metres of upgrades for the Botanic Gardens and over 300 square metres at Kershaw.
“Over the next few weeks, Council crews will continue to replace the current footpaths around the playground areas at Kershaw Gardens,” Cr Rutherford said.
“The much-loved playground will remain open throughout the works to ensure minimal disruption for park visitors.
“At the Botanic Gardens - three separate footpath areas will be upgraded in and around the cenotaph, which will see the existing brick pavers replaced with new aggregate concrete pathways.
“The old pavers will then be given a new lease of life when they’re reused by Council for road pavements or trench back filling.”
Cr Rutherford said the works are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to improve community amenities.
“Over the last two years, Council has focused on renewing the footpaths at the Botanic Gardens with close on 2,500 square metres now upgraded,” Cr Rutherford said.
"Footpaths can seem like a small part of our park infrastructure, but they make a big difference in how people use and enjoy these spaces.
"By improving these pathways, we're not only enhancing the areas’ aesthetics, but also ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can comfortably enjoy our beautiful outdoor areas.”
Both upgrade works are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
