Rockhampton’s Australia Day event is turning up the heat at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Sunday, 26 January 2025 from 2pm – 8pm, with Great Australian Bites Rockhampton set to deliver a mouth-watering lineup of food vendors alongside lively entertainment from home-grown musicians. From the classic Aussie sausage sizzle to exotic Hungarian langos, there’s something for every taste bud!
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams is thrilled to announce that this year’s Great Australian Bites event will cater to foodies and families alike, all while providing a sun-safe celebration under the Big Shed at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
“We’re taking our Australia Day celebrations to the next level in 2025! Rain or shine, we’re guaranteeing a jam-packed day of music, games and authentic Aussie spirit,” Mayor Williams said.
“Plus, this year, the food vendors are bringing their A-game with a mix of local favourites and international delights.”
What’s cooking? Great Australian Bite’s culinary lineup promises to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Highlights include:
Carnival Favourites: Indulge in hot chips, burgers, dagwood dogs, hot dogs, donuts, and churros.
Asian Delights: Savour stir-fry cashew nut, sweet and sour, honey chicken, Panang curry, dim sims, dumplings, spring rolls, deep-fried chicken, and fried rice.
Sweet Treats and Snacks: Enjoy kettle-cooked popcorn in flavours like caramel, plain salty, chocolate, rainbow, toffee apple, and sweet & salty. Add colourful fairy floss spun into clouds, and slushy drinks in blue lemonade, raspberry and green apple flavours.
Gluten-Free Options: Treat yourself to salty pepper calamari and chips, gluten-free doughnut holes and soft drinks.
Classic Aussie Sausage Sizzle: Enjoy freshly grilled sausages alongside bacon, egg and cheeseburgers. Wash it all down with cold bottled water or soft drinks.
Hungarian Specialties: Try traditional Hungarian langos with various toppings.
Advance Rockhampton Tourism and Events Manager Zac Garven highlighted the importance of food in creating a memorable event experience.
“Food is the heart of any celebration, and we’re proud to showcase an incredible variety of options for locals and visitors. From classic Aussie staples to international flavours, there’s truly something for everyone at Great Australian Bites,” Mr Garven said.
Beyond the food, the Kookaburra Stage will feature an amazing lineup of local and emerging country music talent, including Gemma Kirby, Brad Butcher and Lewis McKee. Meanwhile, the Big Backyard will host games, free rides and a chill-out zone to keep the whole family entertained.
So, bring your appetite, your mates, and your family to the Big Shed for a “shed load of fun” this Australia Day! Celebrate with great food, music and activities in a sun-safe, community-focused environment.
