Gladstone Road median strip restoration

Published on 24 February 2016

Rockhampton Regional Council is currently rejuvenating the Gladstone Road median strip ready for new landscaping which will provide a beautiful and vibrant entrance into the city.

“The Floods and cyclone have taken a toll on the medians causing issues with the soil, plants and irrigation. Our crews have been replacing irrigation, conditioning soil and mulching with woodchip in preparation for new plantings,” Cr Rutherford said.

“Over coming weeks you will see new plantings of bougainvillea and flowering groundcovers which will create an eye catching entrance statement leading into the city.

“This project is taking place on weekends due to permit requirements when working on main roads.  As Gladstone Road is one of our busiest roads, Department of Transport and Main Roads require one lane either side of the median to be closed while work is in progress and this can only be done on weekends to cause as minimal impact to traffic as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this work may be causing, however, I’m sure the spectacular floral display these new plantings provide will be well worth it,” Cr Rutherford said.

Weather permitting this work will be completed in mid-March.
