Grant funding to help parents prepare for future employment

Published on 23 December 2015

In the 2015-16 Federal Budget, the Australian Government announced a Youth Employment Strategy as part of the Growing Jobs and Small Business package. As part of this strategy, a new programme has been developed that will provide support to parents with young children, who are at risk of long term unemployment and welfare dependency, to prepare for work.

The Government will shortly be seeking applications for funding under this new programme. Applications will be sought from qualified organisations to establish projects that help parents of young children to plan and prepare for employment by the time their youngest child reaches school age.

The programme will operate in ten Local Government Areas: Bankstown, Wyong and Shellharbour in New South Wales; Hume and Greater Shepparton in Victoria; Logan and Rockhampton in Queensland; Playford in South Australia; Kwinana in Western Australia; and Burnie in Tasmania.

Information on the application process will be available on the Employment Services Procurement Information website in January.
