Have your say on draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy

Rockhampton Region residents are being encouraged to play an active role in a more sustainable future on today’s World Environment Day.
Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking feedback from residents on the proposed Environmental Sustainability Strategy, which sets out a four year plan to protect and enhance the Region’s natural environment.
Environment Councillor Drew Wickerson, said the strategy looks at a range of initiatives for a cleaner, greener future with actions ranging from eco-tourism to educating the next generation.
“The proposed Environmental Sustainability Strategy was officially endorsed at last week’s Council meeting, and it’s with great pleasure that we now invite the community to provide feedback on the proposed approach,” Cr Wickerson said.
“This strategy sets the vision, objectives and pathways to advance sustainability across our Region over the next four years. It identifies ways we can enhance the liveability of our Region, empower our community to live more sustainably, and ensure that what resources we have, we use wisely.
“We can’t implement this sustainability vision on our own however. Environmental sustainability is something that requires a whole of community approach, and we would love to hear the community’s thoughts on what we have come up with.”
Cr Wickerson said the document also features a number of stunning photos of the Region’s natural environment, snapped by local photographers.
“Council recently held our very first nature photo competition and a number of the incredible photos that were entered are now showcased in this document,” Cr Wickerson said.
The proposed strategy can be found here.
