Have your say on the Major Amendment to the Planning Scheme 2023
Published on 16 January 2023
Council has proposed a Major Amendment to the Rockhampton Region Planning Scheme and is currently inviting residents to have their say.
The Major Amendment includes a number of proposals that reflect changes in our region, amend inconsistencies in regard to interpretation of the planning scheme and promote new opportunities for businesses and individuals.
Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said the Planning Scheme is an evolving document, and that it is the responsibility of Council to ensure that it is as effective as possible.
“Amendments to the Planning Scheme are required from time to time to ensure that the Scheme accurately reflects our community and the changing needs of the people who live and work here,” Cr Mathers said
“Community consultation is an essential part of the process of amending the Planning Scheme. We want to hear what individuals, community groups, business, and developers in our region have to say about these changes.
“Ultimately, the Planning Scheme is for the people who live here, and it is designed to meet your needs.”
A summary of the major changes to the planning scheme include:
- Allow for home-based business in Industry zones for existing houses
- Provide further clarification to the Industrial use definitions
- Update terminology in the Bushfire Code to align with State Guidance material
- Amend subdivision provisions to align with mandatory state regulations
- Amend inconsistencies in regard to interpretation of the planning scheme
- Multiple zone, overlay and strategic mapping changes
- Extension of multiple properties protected in Stage 2 of the North Rockhampton Flood Management Area (NRFMA) due to increased mitigation methods (updated flood hazard mapping).
