Help those in need this winter
Published on 02 March 2017
One in 200 people are homeless, cold and hungry on any given night in Australia.
You can help those in need by donating your skills or expertise for this year’s Homeless Connect event on Thursday 25 May 2017.
The Homeless Connect event provides an opportunity for those people who find themselves in difficult situations without safe, secure and affordable housing to attend a day where different services and agencies are on hand to provide help and basic essentials.
Rockhampton Regional Council, along with Government, business and community sector agencies, is calling for businesses of Rockhampton, Mount Morgan and Gracemere to get involved and help make a difference in someone’s life.
Council’s Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said support from local businesses was vital for the event’s success and was calling on them again this year.
“Last year we had more than 30 agencies and businesses share information or donate their services and I’m really encouraging them to come on board, get involved and do the same again this year,” Cr Swadling said.
“We’d really appreciate hairdressers, dentists, podiatrists, doctors and even photographers (to help with identification), who can lend a couple of hours and offer free services to give participants a helping hand.
“It’s a great example of how our community can come together and show how wonderfully generous they are.”
Businesses can also donate essential items such as toothbrushes, soap, towels, blankets, non-perishable food and other basic items to the School of the Arts building on Bolsover Street.
Help us, help them. Get involved in Homeless Connect today!
